Jed Madela talks about his thoughts about singing and performing
With five albums to date, Jed Madela the Grand Champion Performer of the World 2005, has a lot to be proud of. He is one of our new Camp mentors, joining us for the singing track! Read on to learn more about him, and his advice to young singers!
What’s your favorite song to sing?
No specific piece but I love singing “big” songs! Big in the sense that it just explodes with so much emotion.
How did you learn how to sing? Did you have any formal training?
Coming from a musically inclined family, music has been part of me as far as I could remember. I’ve never had formal training but I think experience was the best teacher! I joined singing competitions and started in a band. That was where I got my training.
Do you have any rituals before going on stage?
Nothing fancy. I just say my prayers and jump around my dressing room! … then three deep breaths… then I go onstage and do my thing!
Who’s the singer you idolize the most?
Luther Vandross… so much passion in his singing!
What’s your advice to people who want to apply to be a singer in the camp?
Grab the opportunity! And never stop learning. Singing is a never ending learning experience!
